BREATHING PROPERLY DURING WORKOUTS

October 2026

This one I would like to talk about breathing. It's important that you breathe through your diaphragm and not from your chest. You see a lot of people in the gym would get it twisted of chest breathing and filling your lungs up as much as you can to get that maximum push. But really, you're not getting the maximum airflow to the muscle groups that you're training. In order to get the maximum push and pump to your muscle groups is to breathe through your diaphragm and to breathe through your diaphragm is easy. You can be sitting down, sitting up straight to practice. You can lay down, put a bottle of water or something small on top of your stomach, right where your chest and your sternum meet of your belly, and focus on breathing in and out and watching that water bottle lift and go down. You don't want it to go right, left, forward, back. If it's on your chest, it's going to fall forward. So you want it to sit right in your sternum where your diaphragm is. The more you practice breathing from your diaphragm, the more you'll see a difference in your muscle fatigue. You won't get as fatigued as much. You'll push a lot more reps in the gym. You'll push a lot more push-up exercises, whether it's calisthenics or weights. Breathing through your diaphragm is one of the most important things a body lifter can do. When you go for your set, your first set, whether it be your first or last set, you always want to breathe in through your nose, and push it out through your mouth. It's the most important thing to remember - that way, when you're pushing out through your mouth, you're activating your asymptomatic nervous system, which is going to help you push that last rep out.

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that a 5 minute to 15 minute workout a day could release a similar amount of endorphins that a natural painkiller would give you?

So if you get out there, get a 5 to 15 minute workout in, whether that's push-ups or if it's crunches, you'll feel a whole lot better than you did before!
